Congenital diaphragmatic hernia is one of the surgical emergencies, especially in new born and infant, because the most of the hernia accompany the herniation of the intraabdominal viscera into the pleural cavity ensuing cardiopulmonary embarrassment.
The authors have experienced two cases of general anesthesia for repair of congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Both patient were left sided Bochdalek hernia.
Anesthesia was maintained with halothane-nitrous oxide-oxygen under Ayre¢¥s T--tube technique and patients tolerated very well during operation procedure.
The importance of maintaining adequate ventilation with high oxygen concentrati-on, careful observation and immediate treatment for cardio respiratory embarrassme-nt during operation and postoperative period has been stressed.
